SENIOR PSYCHOLOGIST (HEALTH FACILITY) (SPECIALIST)

Job Description and Duties

This position is located at Coalinga State Hospital.

Apply psychological knowledge and techniques to the assessment and treatment of forensic patients who are detained or committed pursuant to the California Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) Act, Mentally Disordered Offender (MDO) Law, or Mentally Ill Prisoner Program; develop treatment plans, facilitate treatment team conferences, facilitate psychotherapy groups and individual therapy; serve as the department specialist in functional assessment and behavioral intervention for patients with challenging problems; administer, score, and interpret psychological tests.

SITE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Treatment and Assessment of Sexual Offenders; Risk Need Responsively (RNR) principles; Self-Regulation and Better Lives Integrated Models; Dynamic Risk Factors; Strength Assessment; Psychological theories and research, principles, techniques, and problems in developing and coordinating a specialized psychological treatment program; trends in psychology with particular reference to psychopathology; human development, motivation, personality learning, individual differences, adaptation and social interaction; methods for the assessment and modification of human behavior; characteristics and social aspects of mental disorders and retardation; research methodology and program evaluation; institutional and social process, group dynamics; functions of psychologists in various mental health services; current trends in the field of mental health; professional training; community organization and allied professional services.

In accordance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) State Public Health Order of August 5, 2021, Department of State Hospital SQIP-OP_8311 and Policy Directive 5112, all workforce members in Department of State Hospitals must show evidence of full vaccination for COVID-19. This Public Health Order also provides limited exemptions from the vaccination requirement for religious beliefs or qualifying medical reasons. A completed, signed COVID-19 Vaccination Exemption form (DSH-3363) must be provided. To be eligible for a Qualified Medical Reason, a written statement signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or other licensed medical professional practicing under the license of a physician stating that the individual qualifies for the exemption and indicating the probable duration of the worker's inability to receive the vaccine, is required with the completed declination form

A COVID-19 vaccine/booster dose may be available and provided to candidates, who are selected for hire at DSH-Coalinga during the pre-employment process.

Working Conditions

The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
