Description
The Maintenance/Pest Control Specialist performs pest control inspections and applications to prevent infestations on County properties. Also performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities. Maintains and repairs electrical, plumbing and mechanical equipment and performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks requiring knowledge of building trade skills. Employee is responsible for coordinating community service workers assigned by the courts to perform various tasks on County Properties.
Examples of Duties
Performs pest and weed control of County buildings and property. Prevents infestations from occurring on county property.
Performs daily landscape and grounds inspections to monitor pest activity.
Meets with vendors, contractors, and other county employees; receives budgeting quotes and supervises after hour projects.
Works closely with departments scheduling various projects; provides follow-up with departments to make sure work is complete and to their satisfaction.
Performs general carpentry and renovation work in the construction, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows and screens; builds or repairs partitions, cabinets, tables, shelves, and bookcases.
Replaces locks and makes new keys as necessary.
Performs semi-skilled work in the replacement of faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other minor electrical work; assists in major electrical projects.
Performs maintenance work on heating and air conditioning systems, checking thermostats, couplers, fuses, belts, motors, etc.; assists in major heating and air conditioning repair projects.
Performs plumbing tasks including changing faucet washers, stems, seals, etc.; installing water and sanitary fixtures and equipment; and repairing toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, guide wires, etc.
Assembles, moves and repairs furniture; sets up and disassembles meeting rooms.
Sands, paints or stains walls, woodwork, cabinets, tables and other wooden articles.
Hangs and finishes sheetrock, paneling, wallpaper, tile and moldings; installs and repairs carpeting; installs glass panes; installs suspended ceiling grids and tiles.
Works closely with departments scheduling various projects; follow-up with departments to make sure work is complete and to their satisfaction.
Obtains bids from vendors and contractors as necessary.
Operates pickup or dump trucks to transport materials to and from job sites, or to deliver mail and supplies to County offices.
Supervises activities of community service workers assigned by courts.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum two years of experience in a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
State of Texas Noncommercial Political Pesticide Applicator License and State of Texas Noncommercial Political Certified Applicator License Required.
Must attain certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education as a Jailer within one (1) year of employment.
Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days of employment.
Must be able to pass a State Criminal History background check.
