The City of Milpitas is seeking a team-oriented, highly motivated professional to fill the position of Facilities Specialist (Recreation Services Assistant III) in the Recreation and Community Services Department. The Recreation and Community Services Department has a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative environment focusing on exceptional customer service. This team operates in a fast-paced environment supporting facilities and events.
The Recreation Services Assistant III will work with department team members, other departments, and the public to ensure rentals run seamlessly and meet our superior standards. The experience, exposure, and diversity of service is a unique attribute of the Recreation and Community Services Department.
Successful candidates will join a well-established Department team of employees with a strong work ethic and professional aptitude. The team actively collaborates and supports each other in serving the community. Constituents look to our Recreation Services Assistant III to help facilitate successful, well-organized, and efficient rentals.
**The working schedule for this position is from Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.**
Examples of Duties
- Confirms rental reservations, insurance and manages facility use schedules. Provides appropriate set-up and take down for classes, meetings, parties, and special events; ensures rooms are free of safety hazards.
- Monitors facility/event site and user groups by enforcing rules and regulations, and securing and/or reporting damage, theft unsafe conditions.
- Serves as primary contact for all rentals during the assigned shift, responding to customer questions and ensuring policies and procedures are followed for all rentals.
- Handles facility and equipment logistics for all Recreation and Community Services programs, Citywide special events, as needed.

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education:
- Graduation from high school or tested equivalent
Experience:
- At least one year of experience performing related work experience in the assigned area
DESIRABLE
• AA degree in the following areas Hospitality, Facilities Management, Recreation, Performance Arts,
History or a related field is desirable.
• Bilingual (Spanish, Chinese, or Vietnamese) highly desirable.

**The Oral Board Examination is tentatively scheduled for Monday, June 12, 2023.**

RETIREMENT
Membership in CalPERS (2% at 60 or 2% at 62 with three year average salary). City of Milpitas employees do not participate in Social Security, but do contribute to Medicare.ProTech members participate both in CalPERS, and the LIUNA pension fund. The current cost of the LIUNA pension fund is $1.39/hour.
MEDICAL INSURANCE
Choice of CalPERS Medical Plans. City pays coverage up to the Kaiser rate (currently $2,228.36/mo. for family). Employees who waive health coverage are eligible to receive $125 per month in lieu of medical plan coverage with proof of other coverage.
RETIREE MEDICAL
Employees are eligible upon CalPERS retirement from the City to receive up to 100% retiree medical coverage (currently based on the Kaiser health rate), based on years of service.
DENTAL & VISION
City provides full family coverage for Delta Dental and MES Vision at no cost to the employee.
LIFE INSURANCE
City provides $50,000 term policy. Supplemental employee-paid life insurance is available up to $500,000, based on carrier acceptance.
DISABILITY INSURANCE
City provides a Short-Term Disability plan similar to State Disability Insurance (SDI) coverage. Employees do not participate in SDI. Long-Term Disability coverage of 60% of base salary up to $1,500 per month is available after a 60-day waiting period. Additional buy-up options for LTD are available up to $6,000 per month.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION
City contributes $75 per month on the employee's behalf.
VACATION
Hourly employees earn 11-31 days of vacation based on years of service.
HOLIDAYS
Employees receive 12 paid holidays and one (1) floating holiday per year.
SICK LEAVE
Employees earn 12 days annually.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT
Employees are eligible to receive up to $1,400 per fiscal year in tuition reimbursement.
