About the Position:

Housing and Residential Engagement provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,000 students that is safe, clean and very convenient. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director, Residential Facilities Operations (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

In consultation with the Executive Director, Housing and Residential Engagement, the Director of Residential Facilities Operations serves on the department leadership team sharing responsibility for servicing a residential housing program for over 2,100 students with an annual operating budget of over $30 million. Exercises considerable latitude when determining and achieving the complex, comprehensive management of the university's student housing facilities including 13 residence halls, suites, and apartment buildings, grounds, and physical plant operations. Maintains direct management responsibility for 25+ custodial, grounds and maintenance staff members. The lead project manager for all capital planning including current and future construction projects. Manages all emergency preparedness plans for Housing and Residential Engagement. Administers an annual facilities operation budget, damage billing process, as well as on-going work order, capital improvement, and preventative maintenance and repair programs. Consults with the Executive Director and other senior university administrators in the development and administration of department, division, and/or campus policies related to student housing facilities operations and capital planning. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience supervising facilities maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial operations in a residential student housing community or similar building/facility. Ability to develop, implement, and monitor departmental budgets. Ability to independently interpret, communicate, and apply policies and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Ability to effectively supervise facilities operations staff. Ability to cultivate and maintain a positive and productive working atmosphere within the department. Ability to develop cooperative relationship with other university departments. Knowledge of and the ability to establish workplace security and safety. Ability to develop cooperative relationships with off-campus housing resources such as vendors. Ability to work independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform daily and long-range activities. Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of departmental and university policies and procedures in order to effectively support the operation of the department. Experience operating a LEED certified facility.

License/Certifications

Possession and maintenance of a valid California driver's license. Position requires the use of a state and/or personal vehicle for business related events.
